Editorial Policy
How M-Convert creates, sources, and verifies the content on this site.
Purpose
M-Convert publishes reference content about unit conversion. This policy explains how that content is produced, sourced, and maintained.
Sourcing Standards
Every factual claim about a unit definition, conversion factor, or physical constant must be traceable to one of the following primary references:
- BIPM SI Brochure, 9th edition (2019)
- NIST Special Publication 811
- IEEE 1541-2002
- CODATA 2018 recommended values
Secondary sources (textbooks, other websites, encyclopedias) are not used to establish a factor. They may be used to provide context or examples, but never to define a unit or a conversion ratio.
Exact vs. Approximate
Where a factor is exact by definition, the page says so and uses the exact value. Where a factor is approximate or dependent on context, the page says so and explains the limitation. We never present an approximate value as exact, and we never round silently.
Content Types
Converter pages
Each converter page provides: a direct answer, a working calculator, the conversion formula, variable definitions, at least three worked examples, a common-values table, real-world uses, unit definitions, accuracy notes, related converters, and FAQs. The examples are computed from the same engine that powers the calculator, so displayed results and example results always agree.
Guides
Educational guides explain the theory behind the tools. They cite the same primary references and avoid restating content available on converter pages.
Category pages
Category landing pages organize tools by domain, describe the scope of each category, and provide FAQs specific to the category.
Review Process
- Draft the content and list every factual claim.
- Verify each claim against a primary source.
- Test every example against the site's engine.
- Check internal links and structured data.
- Publish.
Corrections
If a factual error is discovered after publication, the page is corrected as soon as the error is verified. Corrections are prioritized by severity:
- Critical: Incorrect conversion factor or formula — corrected immediately.
- Major: Mislabeled unit or definitional error — corrected within days.
- Minor: Typo or wording — batched into the next content review.
To report an error, use the Contact page. Include a source for the correct value if possible.
Independence
M-Convert is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by BIPM, NIST, IEEE, CODATA, or any other standards organization. The site does not accept payment for inclusion of any converter, unit, or factor.
Advertising
M-Convert does not display advertising. If advertising is ever introduced, it will be clearly labeled and will not influence editorial content.
No Fabricated Data
M-Convert does not publish fabricated search volume data, review counts, user statistics, awards, or expert endorsements. Where actual data is unavailable (for example, keyword search volume), the site records it as unknown rather than inventing a number.
